Description
The Plant
BRASSAIOPSIS hispida, like BRASSAIOPSIS mitis or BRASSAIOPSIS hainla, are undoubtedly among THE collector’s plants of recent years. They belong to the Araliaceae family.
The foliage of BRASSAIOPSIS hispida is evergreen, quite thick, slightly downy and pale green. Each leaf has 9 to 11 large lobes and reaches a diameter of around forty centimeters. The petioles measure 20 to 40 cm.
The spring growth is surprising and clearly distinguishes itself from the mature leaf. In fact, it is a fairly pronounced bronze color (see photo).
B. hispida grows slender, even erect. In its natural habitat, it can reach 5 meters.
All BRASSAIOPSIS sold on our website are propagated by us by cutting to ensure genetic identity and already have a trunk. Its height is specified in centimeters for each size.

How to plant and care for BRASSAIOPSIS hispida?
The planting
- Like all Araliaceae, B. hispida likes shady locations. Avoid direct sunlight.
- Choose a location sheltered from the wind and moderately humid, but sufficiently drained in winter to avoid rot.
- The soil should be light or normal with an acidic, neutral or calcareous pH.
- Protect the plant with mulch at the base and a winter cover just before the first frost. Remove this protection as soon as the late frosts end.
- For a good preparation of the pot or ground, we have designed specific instructions available here.
Caring
