Unusual plants (rare plants)

AESCULUS wilsonii, LUMA apiculata, BRASSAIOPSIS mitis, PICEA abies 'Roseomarginata'

In this category of our nursery, you will find a non-exhaustive list of rare plants, sometimes also called “unusual plants“, produced at Vallonchêne. This list is not exhaustive because each gardener determines their level of research for unusual plants.
As such, we have not included certain plants from our nursery, while others may consider them rare plants or unusual plants. Therefore, we still recommend that you consult the availability of ALL of our plants by clicking here.

If you cannot find the plant you are looking for, send us a message by clicking here or call +33 (0)2.35.90.02.02.

Why can a plant be considered a rare plant or unusual plant?

A plant may be unusual or rare for the following reasons:

  • The plant has just been discovered. Many genera and species remain to be discovered in the virgin forests of our planet or in remote or preserved places.
  • The plant is endangered or has disappeared from its natural habitat.
  • The plant has fallen into obscurity despite its great qualities. It is generally no longer cultivated, neither in gardens nor in nurseries.

Why welcome these plants in your garden?

Obviously, these plants bring a new or exceptional side to every garden.
However, the collection of rare plants is definitely an active contribution to the preservation of species and biological diversity of our planet. So why not? Indulge!

How is this list organized?

We did not want to divide this list into subcategories such as conifers, shrubs, trees, perennial plants, climbing plants… Indeed, it is simply an alphabetical list.
