Shrubs and trees

Trees and shrubs are certainly the most frequent plants in a garden (together with herbaceous plants). The evergreen shrub and the evergreen tree are the big favorits as they keep a garden “alive” in winter. Nevertheless, a deciduous shrub or a deciduous tree is as important as an evergreen in a good garden because they bring a certain change with the seasons. Very often, deciduous trees and shrubs have more and greater flowers than evergreens. A exception is MAGNOLIA grandiflora.

We can say that the shrubs and trees at Vallonchêne are hardy, as they have undergone a “test in real life” in our nursery before we put them on sale. Most of them are unusual or rare plants for several reasons : foliage, autumn color, shoots in spring, color and size of flowers, shape, perfume…). We sell flowering shrubs and trees for all seasons, even for winter (i.e. HAMAMELIS). Some of them can be ground cover or crawlers and others stand out with their scent (SARCOCOCCA). Others create a real spectacle in the garden with their changings through all seasons like Japanese maples (ACER palmatum) with their beautiful and variant foliage colors.
